Literature Review and Approach To answer the question â€Å"how does black representation fight the Oppressions of Whiteness?† we first must look at race. For many American’s race, the definition for race is the color of someone’s skin. While many Americans will say that they â€Å"don’t see color† which is harmful in its own way. Race is a huge part of America from politics, shows, toys, books, many things in our daily life. Many anthropologists have even said that race isn’t real, but a social construct created to catalog people. Anthropologist Carolyn Fluehr-Lobban book Race and Racism: An Introduction talks about how â€Å"Americans are socialized first to identify a person’s race by skin color and then secondly by physical features† (pg.1†¦show more content†¦In the United States, it has come to be by talking or acting white that one is civilized or at the very least speaking in Mainstream American English. Which is to say if a black person show s there Blackness by using their language which from many Blackness for the topic of this paper is the weapon in which the black community uses in order to fight the oppression of whiteness. With the talk of self-representation also opens the door wide open to tokenization, authenticity, and authorization. Lysander bravely challenges Egeus over his choice of a suitor for Hermia. Lysander professes his love for Hermia and exposes Demetrius as inconstant, having rejected Helena in favor of her friend. When he wakes, he has been wrongly anointed with the love potion and falls in love with Helena. Lysander decides to leave Hermia unprotected on the ground to pursue Helena. This does not cover him in glory but potentially demonstrates the strength of the potion in that we know how much he loved Hermia, but now the potion has moved him to be so repulsed by her that he is willing to leave her alone. Adrian Sage Rachel Shaw Our tape projects shows artistic investigation in that we had to look into the aspects of this character to try and figure out how we could best represent them with what we had. We looked into the culture of the show and his character in order to do just that. As for the process, it was quite a long one. Once we had it all planned out, we started the tape, using different parts of each person in our group. We used Drain’s limbs, lower body, stomach area, and head, and then used Earache’s upper body. We used the technique of wrapping the tape around the part needed with the sticky side out and building up until it was thick enough and very carefully cutting the tape off the person, without hurting the Truckee of the tape or the person. Once all our pieces were all cut out, we put them all together, using even more tape. The spray painting came next. We used the spray paint to color in the pants, shirt, hair, and shoes. One of our characters signature items is his trench coat and tie that he is almost always wearing. We used the actual articles of clothing for that. Since our character is also an angel, we made angel wings out of cardboard and then spray painted those as well and attached them to he tape sculpture itself. We did this project and used this character because, seeing as we both are big fans of the show and this specific character, it is sort of a nerdy representation of the both of us. The material and media influenced our artistic decisions because, using mainly tape, it forced us to think simply. We needed mostly the vague outline of a human figure through the tape which was time consuming and difficult in itself, and the props we needed had to be so associated with this harasser that it would be very easy to figure out who it was if the person happened to know of the show. The intended expression or communication intended with this piece was to deep down Just accept the nerdy side of you, if you have one. And, for those who know this character, they know that he is all about being true to yourself and coming over tremendous odds, which can also hopefully be seen through our piece. Rosa Parks And the Montgomery Bus Boycott Essay 3/20/00 Mrs. Rosa Parks on the 1st of December in 1955 in Montgomery Alabamba was arrested for not standing and letting a white bus rider sit in her seat. It was a rule in the American South that blacks had to sit in the back of the bus. Also africans were expected to give up their seat if needed. When she was told to get up from her seat and let the other bus driver be seated Mrs. Parks had said no. She didnt move nor argue. The police were called and Mrs. Parks was arrested. She was not the first black African-American arrested for this crime. She was the first arrested who was well known in the Montgomery African- American community. Once she was secretary for the president of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). In Montgomery Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was the pastor of the Dexter Anevue Baptist Church. He and other black african community leaders felt a protest of some kind was needed. A big overflowing crowd came to hear his words when a meeting was called. The only way to fight back is to boycott the company Dr. King told the crowd. Black African residents of the city refused to use the buses on December 5, in the morning. Some walked, the few with cars arranged rides for friends even strangers. Some of them even rode mules. Only a few of them rode the bus that day. The African-American community leaders and Dr. King held another meeting to organize futre action. They named their organization the Montgomery Improvement Association and elected Dr. King as its president. As the boycott continued the white community fought blacks with terrorisim and harassment. The car-pool drivers were arrested for picking up hitchhikers. African-Americans waiting on street corners for a ride were arrested for remaining in an area for no obvious reason. Dr. Kings home was bombed badly on January 30, 1956. Dr. King his wife and their baby daughter escaped without being seriously injured. An angry mob waited for Dr. King when he arrived home. We must learn to meet hate with lovehe said. The boycott continued for over a year but then it eventualy took the United States Supreme Court to end the boycott. On November 13, 1956 the court declared that Alabambas state and local laws requiring segregation on buses were illegal. On December 20th federal injunctions were served on the city and bus company officals forcing them to follow the Supreme Courts ruling. The following morning, December 21, 1956 , Dr. King and Rev. Glen Smiley, a white minister, shared the front seat of a public bus. The boycott had lasted 381 days. The boycott was a success. .
